Bhutan has collaborated with Binance Pay and DK Bank to introduce the first-ever national cryptocurrency tourism payment system globally. This initiative allows travelers with Binance accounts to utilize digital assets for nearly all aspects of their journey in Bhutan, including airline tickets, visa fees, hotel accommodations, entry to monuments, tour guides, and even purchasing fresh fruit from roadside vendors.
With over 100 local merchants already integrated by DK Bank and Binance Pay, tourists can now experience a completely cashless and cardless environment in one of the most distinctive travel destinations worldwide.
Binance CEO Richard Teng said, “We are excited to partner with Bhutan as we are not only advancing the use of cryptocurrencies in travel but also setting a precedent for how technology can bridge cultures and economies.”
“This is more than a payment solution — it’s a commitment to innovation, inclusion, and convenience,” said Damcho Rinzin, Director of the Department of Tourism, Bhutan. “It enables a seamless experience for travellers and empowers even small vendors in remote villages to participate in the tourism economy.”
The Binance application enables travelers to utilize either dynamic or static QR codes for executing secure transactions in real-time. This system accommodates over 100 cryptocurrencies, including BNB, BTC, and USDC, and facilitates immediate settlement in local currency via DK Bank.
This method will not only streamline travel logistics will also alleviate several enduring challenges in cross-border tourism, such as elevated transaction and currency exchange fees, as well as the limited acceptance of international cards.
Furthermore, with Binance Pay supporting over 300 cryptocurrencies and catering to tens of millions of users across more than 100 countries, it is equipped to deliver such an experience on a national scale—reliably, securely, and without gas fees.
