Diljit Dosanjh drinks Rs 31,000 coffee, the most expensive in London; Know why is the coffee so expensive – Lifestyle News

Posted on 29 May 2025 by financepro

Known for effortlessly mixing stardom with relatability, Diljit Dosanjh has been on a global roll – recently turning heads at the MET Gala with his signature flair. And now, he’s made headlines once more. This time it’s not for fashion though, but for his latest culinary adventure in London, ft. London’s most expensive coffee.

In a now-viral video, Diljit can be seen stepping out of his car in London’s upscale Mayfair, announcing with a mix of excitement and disbelief, “Today, I am here for the most expensive coffee in London. I want to drink the Japan Typica coffee. This is too pricey, around Rs 31,000 in India.”

Yes, you read that right—Rs 31,000 for a single cup of coffee.

As Diljit narrates in his trademark Punjabi throughout the clip, he observes the meticulous brewing process: “They are measuring and pouring everything despite taking so much money. I am going to drink something pure now. I am not going to have food today, this is the only thing I’ll have. Each sip is worth Rs 7,000.”

But it was his reaction after taking the first sip that truly stole the show. “Ae toh pheeki coffee hai, saath main laddoo, boondi bhi le aao, itni expensive coffee hai.” (This coffee is quite bland; they should get something sweet with it. The coffee is so expensive.)

In true Diljit fashion, he didn’t stop there. He quipped that for the same price, he could have easily attended a lavish wedding back in India. As always, fans couldn’t get enough. One fan commented, “Your commentary… Meaning of real reels!” while another hilariously pointed out, “Each sip of coffee Diljit took was worth Rs 10,000.”

But why is Diljit’s coffee – the Japanese Typica coffee, so expensive?

The coffee in question is served at Shot, a high-end café in Mayfair offering what is reportedly Britain’s priciest cup – a £265 brew made from Japanese Typica beans. The beans are sourced all the way from Okinawa, a picturesque island in Japan known for its serene beauty and the longevity of its residents. The coffee, said to embody the Japanese principle of perfection, is served in classic styles—from espresso to latte—but without any frills.

Shot cafe, where Diljit sipped his ultra-luxurious brew, is known for offering rare, premium coffees. Aside from the £265 Japanese Typica, the menu features other high-end options like the £70 Savannah Zombie, made from beans sourced in Haiti, and the £32 St Helena, crafted from beans grown on the remote Wrangham Estate.

According to three-time UK barista champion Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood, the jaw-dropping price tag may be due to the rarity of Japanese-grown coffee. “Hardly anyone grows coffee in Japan,” he explained in an interview with The Telegraph. “It typically grows in the tropics—it’s very hard to grow in places like Japan and probably needs a lot of help. I’ve never seen a Typica that expensive before—which suggests the value is coming from the fact that it’s grown in Japan.”

Scarce or not, it’s safe to say that the real takeaway for fans was Diljit’s infectious sense of humour and his ability to turn a luxury coffee run into an entertaining experience.
