Google co-founder admits using AI for appraisal, task assignment to Gemini team – Technology News

Posted on 24 May 2025 by financepro

You might have heard about AI taking away jobs and having a negative effect on the workplace culture. But did you know that AI also helped senior management at Google notice and identify a not-so-vocal employee during the appraisal process?

In a recent episode of the ‘All In’ podcast, Sergey Brin, who co-founded Google with Larry Page, emphasised the role of AI in management, especially for top management. Brin emphasised on how he was able to rely on AI for managing the Gemini product team, especially for delegating tasks and choosing top performers – two important tasks for top management across the world.

Google co-founder used AI to assign tasks

Brin said that he used an AI tool to go through multiple threads of chats and conversations to simplify the lengthy discussions. The AI could read entire discussions and answer highly complex queries based on the conversation. “It could suck down a whole chat space and then answer pretty complicated questions,” said Brin.

He then uses the AI to help him assign tasks to the team members.

AI also helped to find a deserving candidate for appraisal

Brin also said that his AI tool helped him find a deserving candidate for appraisal – a person whom he didn’t even notice. The AI scanned through the data and brought out a female employee who wasn’t very vocal. “It actually picked out this young woman engineer who I didn’t even notice, she wasn’t very vocal. I talked to the manager, actually, and he was like, ‘Yeah, you know what? You’re right. Like she’s been working really hard, did all these things, said Brin.

The woman eventually went on to get the appraisal.

Brin even went on to say that AI tools can do certain tasks far better than humans, especially maths and coding. Although he doesn’t reveal the name of the AI chatbot, it seems that Brin relies on the Gemini chatbot, a product of Google’s AI team.

AI can do much more

Although Brin is using AI for analytical help, the AI chatbots and tools of today can do a lot more. Google’s Gemini is capable of solving complex mathematical problems, generate images and videos, create written content and a lot more.
