The United States has issued a stern warning for visa applicants — noting that criminal convictions could lead to a permanent ban. A message from the US embassy also stressed the need for absolute transparency during visa interviews to improve chances. The missive comes amid an ongoing immigration crackdown by the Trump administration that has plunged thousands including Indian students and professionals into uncertainty over the past few months.
“Criminal convictions can permanently bar you from entering the United States. Even minor offenses can trigger visa denials. Consular officers have access to your criminal background and will discover past violations or arrests. Tell the truth on your application and in your interview – lying can get you banned,” said the US Embassy handle.
The warning came hours after the Indians holding an US visa were urged to avoid overstaying their welcome — at risk of deportation and a permanent ban. Those holding employment permits or H-1B visas, study (F-1) and tourism (B-2) visas have also been asked exercise caution and refrain from extending their stay beyond authorised limits.
“If you remain in the United States beyond your authorized period of stay, you could be deported and could face a permanent ban on traveling to the United States in the future,” read a social media post.
