The Korean entertainment industry has united in the wake of the deadliest South Korean wildfires in the country’s history. Several top Hallyu stars, including K-pop idols and K-drama actors have come together to make staggering donations to uplift the wildfire recovery procedure and aid victims plagued by the nightmarish calamity that has shook the country for the worse.
Just hours ago, Reuters reported that South Korean authorities have contained the main blazes of the week-old wildfires that have killed at least 28 people. Starting in the south-east on March 21, the fires displaced tens of thousands of people. The devastating aftermath of the wildfire resulted in a gutted 1,300-year-old temple in Uiseong city, threatening even other cultural sites. Manhyujeong Pavilion in Andong, a site famous for being popular K-drama Mr Sunshine’s filming location, was also possibly destroyed, according to YNA.co.kr.
K-pop idols donate to South Korea wildfires cause
According to the most recent K-media reports, BTS’ Jungkook has joined his bandmates RM, J-Hope and Suga in making grand donations to support the cause. Jungkook alone has made a whopping addition of 1 billion KRW to the pool, while the other members of the global K-pop sensation BTS have pitched in 100 million KRW each.
Additionally, Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association announced on Thursday that BLACKPINK’s Jennie donated 100 million KRW during these hard times. Her donation will reportedly be used to improve provision of relief supplies, operation of temporary shelters for residents of the affected areas and emergency livelihood support. Jisoo, another member of the top-charting girl group, donated 150 million KRW to the Korean Red Cross. (For reference: 1 US Dollar is approximately 1,467 South Korean Won)
Per the recent additions to the South Korean wildfires donation pool, several NCT members, including Jungwoo, Johnny, Jaehyun, Jeno, Jaemin and the SM Entertainment boy group’s leader Taeyong have also made contributions. More donations poured in from the K-pop scene as SEVENTEEN, GOT7’s Jinyoung, Red Velvet’s Seulgi, ZEROBASEONE’s Jiwoong, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and TWICE’s Jihyo humbly submitted to the cause.
The expansive list of top Korean celebrities contributing the cause also saw huge donations from highly sought-after K-drama stars such as Ji Chang Wook, Byeon Woo Seok, IU, Kim Woo Bin, Shin Min Ah, Lee Dong Wook, Go Min Si, Han Ji Min (Love Scout) and many more.
