The GIFT Nifty implied a higher start following a rally in the US markets. The Wall Street rose as it witnessed better-than-expected non-farm payroll data, which sidelined the fear of recession.
Earlier on Friday, the NSE Nifty 50 closed the session 12.5 points or 0.05% higher at 24,347, while the BSE Sensex rose 260 points or 0.32% to close at 80,502.

Asian Markets
On May 05, major Asian indices, including Japan’s Nikkei 225, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, Korea’s Kospi, and many others, were closed for trading on account of Vesak Day, which commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha.
US markets
The US stock markets extended the rally as the non-farm payroll data came better than expectations. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 564.47 points, or 1.39%, to end at 41,317.43. The S&P 500 gained 1.47% to finish at 5,686.67, and the Nasdaq Composite increased 1.51% to close at 17,977.73.
US dollar
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was down 0.13% at 99.73 on Monday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee depreciated 0.04% to close at 84.53 to the dollar on May 02.
Crude oil
The crude oil prices declined on Monday. WTI crude prices were trading at $56.07, down by 3.77%, while Brent crude prices were trading at $59.17, down by 3.47%, on Monday morning.
FII, DII data
Foreign institutional investors (FII) were the net buyers of shares worth Rs 2,769.81 crore. Meanwhile, the Domestic institutional investors (DII) were the net sellers of shares worth Rs 3,290.49 crore on May 02, 2024, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.
Gold rate today
The gold prices retreated from the all-time high. The rate for 24-carat gold today is Rs 93,000 per 10 grams. The rate of gold is down by 3.45% from the last one month. The 22 kt gold rate today is Rs 85,250 per 10 grams. The 18-carat gold price today is Rs 69,750.
