A striking new side effect dubbed “Ozempic mouth” is affecting Hollywood, with celebrities reportedly falling victim to facial changes caused by the popular weight-loss drug. A report by DailyMail.com cites New York-based cosmetic dermatologist Dr Michele Green, who believes stars like Sharon Osbourne, Whoopi Goldberg and Rebel Wilson may be displaying signs of the phenomenon.
“Many users of Ozempic report noticeable volume loss in the face, which can cause fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin and jowls around the mouth,” Dr Green said. This facial volume loss can accentuate aging and diminish the natural contours of the smile, she explained.
What is ‘Ozempic mouth’?
The condition is characterised by deep folds at the corners of the mouth, prominent lip wrinkles and sagging skin along the chin and jawline, Green told Daily Mail. These symptoms have alarmed many users, who are now turning to cosmetic treatments for help.
Dermal fillers are the most common solution, used to restore facial volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. “Fillers can plump the skin, making it appear more youthful,” said Green.
She also recommends Thermage, a non-invasive skin-tightening treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen production. “Patients on Ozempic should ideally undergo a Thermage procedure early in treatment or before beginning it, to prevent the development of loose, sagging skin,” she advised. Results typically take four to six months and may last up to two years.
In addition to “Ozempic mouth”, users of the drug have reported other unusual side effects, such as “Ozempic face” and even “Ozempic feet”, involving sagging foot skin.
With Ozempic’s popularity surging among weight-loss seekers, especially in celebrity circles, doctors are urging users to be informed of these aesthetic changes and consider preventative treatments early.
