Digital payments giant PhonePe is stepping up its e-commerce game with a bold move into the online pharmacy space. Its hyperlocal commerce platform, Pincode, has rolled out a 10-minute medicine delivery service in Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru — a model that stands apart by working directly with neighbourhood pharmacies rather than relying on centralised dark stores.
This approach, aimed at combining speed with community support, allows local chemists to tap into the growing online market without losing relevance in the digital era. By plugging small retailers into the fast-delivery ecosystem, Pincode is not only meeting urgent consumer needs but also expanding the footprint of independent medical stores, the company added.
According to the company, what sets the platform apart is its accessibility. Customers who don’t have a prescription can still place an order through the app by opting for a ‘no prescription’ checkout. In such cases, a certified doctor will follow up with a free teleconsultation and, if necessary, issue a digital prescription in line with India’s telemedicine regulations. This ensures the service remains both user-friendly and legally compliant.
Pincode’s offering includes over-the-counter medications, chronic condition treatments, and emergency supplies. Deliveries are handled by nearby partner chemists, ensuring rapid fulfilment while keeping the pricing competitive. Since there are no added delivery fees and discounts are passed on directly from stores, the platform manages to offer affordability alongside convenience. The app also runs around the clock, providing 24/7 access to medicines and consultations, the company noted.
