Unless you are living under a rock, the things that artificial intelligence (AI) can do are not unknown to you. From generating images to generating video, AI can do everything. While the world is hooked on creating animated Studio Ghibli images, the CEO of an AI company, Perplexity AI, Aravind Srinivas, asked an interesting question.
Taking to X, he posted, “What would it take to produce a really good Mahabharata with the help of today’s AI? What do you think should be the budget and who should direct it?”

This sparked interest in filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and he wanted to collaborate on the project. Replying to the tweet, he wrote, “Mahabharat should be a platform that supports multiple story telling .. it’s the closest to Quantum story telling .. characters evolve out of characters .. let’s chat @AravSrinivas.”

This brief conversation also got internet users interested and excited in the prospect of an AI-made Mahabharat. One user wrote, “Director is ready. Fortunately no character is needed. No star fee. Hope we get to see a trailer soon,” while another wrote, “Never knew that. Glad was able to make the connect both. Would be interesting use case of AI ( diffusion and transformers ) to have story and actors the same but time and space ( location of events ) can evolve / change.”
