A lot has been said and debated over Mohanlal’s latest film L2: Empuraan, which is currently facing backlash over some scenes. Amid all the criticism, actor Mohanlal, in his recent Facebook post expressed regret and said that it was his duty to ensure that none of his films show hostility to any “political movement, ideology or religious group”. The film is now set to go through 17 cuts and released yet again on April 2.
‘Why should I watch the movie?’: Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Empuraan row
Commenting on the issue, newly elected state BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that he decided not to see the movie. He explained that if the actor himself is not happy with the final cut of his film, then there is no reason to buy a ticket and popcorn to watch it. Chandrasekhar also said that he will watch the movie once it is released after the 17 cuts are incorporated.
The Kerala BJP president said that when the film was released, some people really liked it and one of them was Pinarayi Vijayan. He said that he wanted to watch it but decided not to in “such circumstances”.
“Why should I fuel Pinarayi Vijayan’s controversy? The Congress followed as it is their habit to rush and follow the issues taken up by the CPI(M),” Chandrasekhar said while taking a dig at the Congress.
He insisted that the whole controversy surrounding the film was “manufactured” adding that a movie should be seen as a movie, and not history. He also said that it could have been publicity strategy by the producers of the film.
Chandrasekhar further said that BJP believes in freedom of expression and others too should respect it. He said that if any party member watches a film and does not like it, then they can say so as it is their opinion of the film.
On being asked how CBFC cleared the movie, the state BJP president said, “It is an institution and you should ask them what their yardstick was when clearing the movie.” He added that contradicting views does not mean its a controversy, it means that these are opinions.
Mohanlal trolled for Eid wishes
Meanwhile, Mohanlal gave wishes on the occasion of Eid on Monday, which was followed by a barrage of comments and trolling directed at him.
While some fans appreciated his Eid wishes, others showed disappointment with his apology. “When it became certain that the censor board would cut scenes, two lakh tickets were wasted just yesterday. That wasn’t just about money; it was public sentiment. And yet, you apologised and ruined it,” one of the comments read.
Some viewers have praised Mohanlal’s acting and the exciting action scenes, while others have slammed the Malayalam movie for allegedly trying to spread anti-Hindu propaganda.
