France-based TotalEnergies plans to increase its sales of US produced energy products like LNG to India as the demand for those products are expected to grow in the country in the coming years.
“We plan to sell more energy, in particular from the US. We are the largest US energy exporter of total energy. So we can bring more,” chairman and chief executive officer of TotalEnergies Patrick Pouyanne told reporters after meeting Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
Under the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) that is being negotiated with the US, India may step up sourcing of energy products from America to help bridge some of the trade gap between the two countries, which is a key demand of President Donald Trump. Due to the deficits that the US is running with the world, President Trump has imposed reciprocal tariffs on all trade partners.
TotalEnergies CEO said that the company has invested almost $5 billion in the last five years In India – in particular gas, natural gas, importing energy, city gas, development of gas infrastructure in India, as well as renewables. “We invest a lot in solar and wind in India, with Adani in particular.”
“On the renewable side we continue to support the expansion of Adani Green, which already has 14 gigawatts of capacity. So we will continue to support this growth, he added
At the meeting with Goyal the discussions centred on what the company’s plans – has done and what it intends to do in the future.
“Discussed the company’s investment plans for India and deeper collaboration in the renewable energy sector,” Goyal said in a post on ‘X’ after the meeting.
