The much-anticipated trailer for the third and final season of Squid Game has been released, creating a huge buzz around the world. Set to premiere on Netflix, the new season promises a harrowing conclusion to the story of Player 456, Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, as he prepares for one last, devastating confrontation with the Front Man.
Squid Game season 3 trailer is out
The trailer opens with a sinister twist on the infamous ‘Red Light, Green Light’ game, which marks a return to the brutal survival challenges of the first season. This time, however, the stakes, and emotional trauma, are even higher. Still reeling from the traumatic events of Season 2, including the death of his closest ally Jung Bae, Gi-hun is seen tormented by guilt. “Why did you let me live?” he demands repeatedly, his voice filled with anguish. His question is met only with the Front Man’s smirk.
At the heart of the trailer is a chilling dialogue between Gi-hun and the masked leader. “Player 456, do you still have faith in people?” the Front Man, portrayed by Lee Byung-hun, asks, hinting at the season’s dark themes of morality and betrayal.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who returns as the series creator, writer, and director, has hinted at a deeper exploration of Gi-hun’s emotional descent. In an earlier interview with Variety, Hwang explained, “I thought that that was an adequate moment to put a stop and give [Gi-hun] a little bit of closure along [his] long story arc.” He added, “In the third season, having that sense of huge guilt and sense of failure weighing heavily on him, how is Gi-hun going to carry on his mission? That’s the story that’ll further unfold.”
New faces and newer twisted games
Season 3 introduces several deadly new games, with Netflix confirming the return of the terrifying height-based challenge, which had been absent in the second season. Iconic props like Young-hee, the giant doll from the first two seasons, reappear, but seemingly with a new, more sinister purpose.
A revamped version of the brutal Tug of War is also teased in the trailer, this time taking place in a children’s room with eerie, crayon-drawn murals. One particularly cryptic image hints at the birth of a child, possibly linked to Im Si-wan’s mysterious new character, whose unborn baby may become a turning point in the series.
Im Si-wan is expected to take on a prominent role, with his character’s storyline reportedly serving as a major emotional and narrative pivot. Other previously sidelined characters, such as Seon Nyeo, are set to receive more depth, while fan favorites Hyun Ju and Jang Geum Ja return with expanded backstories.
Squid Game season 3: The final battle begins
Season 2 ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, with Gi-hun attempting to rally a group of players against the Front Man, only to watch helplessly as his closest companion was killed. Unbeknownst to Gi-hun, the Front Man is actually In-ho, a past Squid Game victor who now operates as the games’ overseer under the alias Young Il.
This revelation further deepens Gi-hun’s inner turmoil, as the trailer leads to a climactic showdown between Gi-hun and the Front Man, thus setting the stage for a final season that promises not only survival, but also psychological warfare.
Squid Game first premiered in September 2021, and quickly became a global sensation. It remains Netflix’s second most-watched series of all time, with Season 2, released in December 2024, taking the third spot. Only Wednesday Season 1 has garnered more views on the platform.
Squid Game Season 3 premieres on June 27, 2025, exclusively on Netflix.
