N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons will step down from the position of Chairman and Director of Tata Chemicals, with effect from May 29, 2025. In a regulatory filing, Tata Chemicals said that Chandrasekaran, in his letter dated May 28, 2025, has informed the company of his intention to step down from the position of Director and Chairman.
The letter to the Board of Directors by Chandrasekaran stated, “I am writing to formally inform you of my decision to step down from my position as a director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tata Chemicals Limited w.e.f. 29th May, 2025.” It further added that after careful evaluation of his current and future commitments, he has decided to step down from the Board.
“It has been a privilege to chair the Tata Chemicals board and I sincerely appreciate the support and collaboration during my tenure,” it added.
Tata Chemicals further announced the appointment of S Padmanabhan, Director of the Company, as the Chairman of the Board with effect from May 30, 2025.
Chandrasekaran’s AI plans for TCS
Chandrasekaran currently serves as Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata group, where he is looking closely at the future of Tata Consultancy Services vis-a-vis AI developments. In a letter to TCS’s shareholders, on May 27, he said generative AI is not just a tech cycle but a civilization that has the potential to benefit every industry.
He added that the company plans to establish a large pool of AI agents working along with the human workforce of the company. The company is planning on delivering solutions through a human AI model.
Chandrasekaran said that TCS is planning to partner with companies working in providing software and hardware AI products.
