As AI starts to get more mainstream, it becomes more crucial for our web browsers to integrate their services and make our digital lives a tad easier. On a Windows laptop, you have Microsoft’s CoPilot assistant based on ChatGPT models to offer all sorts of quick help and reference while you are at work, thus helping a little with the workflow. However, what if the AI agent could be a part of the browser itself instead of being a separate entity?
Thanks to Opera, we can now envision that possibility. The Opera Neon is a new-age web browser that integrates AI deeper than any other browser available in the market. Relying on a generative AI bot, the browser can not only chat and carry out tasks on your behalf, but it can also create things for you, even when you have gone offline.

The Neon browser, as Opera describes, is an “agentic browser designed to understand your intent, assist with tasks, and take actions. It’s built to help you get things done and explore what’s possible when intelligent agents work alongside you.”
The AI agent, which is accessible via a sidebar, can do generic generative AI activities like chatting and discussions, generating written text and images and seeking solutions to mathematical problems. The bot can also do things for you, such as filling out forms, creating a travel plan and dealing with all the booking bits, and even carry out administrative functions within the browser.
However, the AI engine can also comply with complex creation directions. Opera says that the agent can understand the context and interpret what the user requests. It can then execute those requests on a virtual machine instead of the local device. Hence, you can log off while your web browser keeps doing coding, research on a topic or even creating a bespoke video game for you, all while you are asleep.
Opera is yet to reveal the availability of the web browser and whenever it is ready, it will be available as part of a subscription.
