Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Friday said the government is in discussions with key stakeholders, including airlines, to minimise disruptions caused by the planned temporary closure of a runway at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
The runway, RW 28/10, will be shut for upgrades from mid-June to mid-September 2025 to install a new Instrument Landing System (ILS), Naidu said. The closure has been scheduled after the peak tourist season and is timed with a seasonal shift in wind direction, he added.
“We are actively engaging with airlines and other stakeholders to ensure minimal impact on scheduled flights,” Naidu stated, speaking at the curtain raiser for the upcoming Wings India 2026 aviation conference, to be held in Hyderabad in January.
IGIA, India’s busiest airport, manages around 1,300 flight movements daily. It has four runways — RW 09/27, RW 11R/29L, RW 11L/29R and RW 10/28 — along with two active terminals, T1 and T3. Terminal 2 is currently shut for maintenance.
The ministry aims to ensure that operations continue smoothly despite the temporary runway shutdown.
