Microsoft Build 2025 highlights: Microsoft doubles down on AI with Copilot enhancements – Technology News

Posted on 20 May 2025 by financepro

At Microsoft Build 2025, the company unveiled its forward-looking strategy centered around AI agents — intelligent digital assistants designed to think, remember, and act independently to support individuals and businesses. These agents represent the next evolution in automation, with tailored solutions for different domains. For developers, highlights include advancements to GitHub Copilot, enhanced multi-agent functionality within Copilot Studio for Microsoft 365, and powerful AI toolkits through the Windows and Azure AI Foundries.

Enhanced GitHub Copilot:

Microsoft is transforming GitHub Copilot into a more autonomous development companion. Unlike the previous version, which assisted users within the code editor, the upgraded version now operates asynchronously. It functions in the background to handle coding tasks on behalf of the developer, acting more like a co-engineer than just a suggestion tool.

Windows and Azure AI Foundries:

Aimed at empowering AI creators, the newly launched Windows AI Foundry equips developers with resources to craft AI-powered applications for the Windows platform. This toolkit provides access to pre-trained and open-source models via Foundry Local, enabling seamless customization and deployment. Simultaneously, the Azure AI Foundry targets cloud-based innovation, offering developers a collection of tools and partner models to accelerate AI project development.

Microsoft 365 Security Support Extension:

Microsoft addressed user concerns regarding the end-of-life timeline for Windows 10. Despite the operating system’s support ending in 2025, Microsoft 365 Apps will continue receiving security updates on Windows 10 until October 14, 2028. This extension provides users with extra time to upgrade to Windows 11 while maintaining application security.

Introducing Magentic-UI:

A standout announcement was the debut of Magentic-UI, Microsoft’s new agentic web interface. Designed as a “human-centric web assistant,” this open-source tool goes beyond automation by working in tandem with the user. It transparently displays every step it takes in a dedicated panel, allowing users to track and understand the agent’s decisions. Available on GitHub and through Azure AI Foundry Labs, Magentic-UI highlights Microsoft’s commitment to collaborative and open AI development.
