Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday revealed that India used the BrahMos missiles (supersonic cruise missile system) to target Pakistani air bases during the military action following Operation Sindoor. Shah also said that Pakistan did not activate its Chinese-made air defence systems during the operation. He claimed this showed the world the truth about Pakistan’s role in supporting terrorism.
“As our indigenously developed BrahMos worked to destroy Pakistan’s air bases, its own air defence system, borrowed from China, remained unused,” Shah said at an event in Ahmedabad.
Amit Shah praised the Indian Air Force for carrying out accurate and impactful strikes on key locations in Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, describing it as a significant achievement in national security. “Operation Sindoor will be written in golden letters when the history is written on the border safety,” Shah said.
Launched in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national, Operation Sindoor targeted terrorist infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These were believed to be the bases from where attacks on India were being planned and executed.
Shah further added that Operation Sindoor exposed Pakistan’s long-standing denial of terrorist activities on its soil. He said that, despite Pakistan’s repeated claims that no terrorism existed within its borders and that India’s concerns were baseless, the precision missile strikes under Operation Sindoor destroyed multiple terrorist bases, revealing the truth to the global community.
Shah pointed out that the very next day, high-ranking Pakistani army officials were seen attending the funerals of the terrorists, openly participating in the ceremonies. This, he said, made it clear that there was a direct link between the Pakistani state, its army, and terrorist groups.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in Bihar following the Pahalgam terror attack, Shah credited the swift and effective response to the government’s strong political leadership, the bravery of the armed forces, accurate intelligence inputs, and superior firepower. He said terrorist camps in nine different locations across Pakistan were completely destroyed in the operation.
He further added that the Modi government had sent a strong message to those who had targeted innocent civilians, particularly women, through acts of terror. According to Shah, the operation marked a new chapter in India’s approach to national security and border protection.
Shah also recalled Prime Minister Modi’s stern message to Pakistan after the operation — that water from the Indus River and the blood of Indian citizens cannot flow together. He said that the PM has made it clear that if terrorism continues, not a single drop of water from the Indus will be allowed to enter Pakistan.
