The range-bound session ends on a lower note on Friday. The Nifty 50 closed the session 48 points or 0.19% lower at 25,013, the Sensex fell 238 points or 0.29% to end at 82,292.96.
In line with the overall market sentiments, the Nifty Bank declined 5 points or 0.01% to end at 55,350.80.
However, the small and midcap stocks broke ranks with the benchmarks. The BSE Smallcap advanced 595.27 points or 1.18% to finish at 51,045.74, and the BSE midcap surged 380.29 points or 0.85% to 45,005.84.
For the week, Nifty closes 1.7% higher while the Sensex is up 0.6%.

Indices in intraday trade
The indices closed Friday’s session on a lower note on the back of muted global and domestic cues. During the session, the Nifty 50 fell as much as 0.5%, while the 30-stock index, Sensex, corrected 0.4%.
Top gainers
Bharat Electronics was the top gainer in the Nifty 50 in Friday’s session, closing 3.82% higher. It was followed by Tata Consumer Products, Bajaj Auto, Adani Enterprises, and Hindustan Unilever.
Top losers
Meanwhile, the shares of BHarti Airtel were the biggest losers in today’s trade. It was followed by HCL Technologies, Infosys, JSW Steel, Shriram Finance, and many others.
Sectoral Index
The Nifty Realty outperformed and closed at the highest level among the sectoral indices, rising 1.63% in Friday’s trade. It was followed by Nifty FMCG, surging 0.66%. The broader markets, small- and mid-cap stocks closed on a higher note. The volatility index has cooled down in today’s trade by 2.02% to the 16.55 level.
Market breadth remained in favour of bulls
The overall market breadth remained in favour of bulls. Out of 2,971 stocks traded, 1,969 advanced and 911 declined. Also, 91 stocks remained unchanged. Today, 57 stocks hit a fresh 52-week high compared with 8 stocks hitting a 52-week low. Adding to that, 175 stocks touched the upper circuit and 33 were at the lower circuit.
