Apple to pay Rs 790 crore to settle Siri listening case: Here’s how to claim, eligibility, last date and more – Technology News

Posted on 15 May 2025 by financepro

If you’ve used a Siri-enabled Apple device anytime since 2014, you might be eligible to receive compensation. Apple has agreed to a $95 million (roughly Rs 810 crore) settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit accusing the company of its voice assistant, Siri, turning on without user intent and capturing private conversations.

Filed in a California federal court in 2021, the case Lopez v. Apple was brought by users who claimed their Apple devices recorded private conversations after Siri was accidentally triggered. While a settlement has now been reached, Apple continues to deny any wrongdoing, as stated in the legal notice reported by USA TODAY.

“If you owned or purchased a Siri-enabled device and experienced an unintended Siri activation during a confidential or private communication between Sept. 17, 2014, and Dec. 31, 2024, you should read this Notice as it may impact your legal rights,” the legal notice states.

The lawsuit claims that Apple may have collected and possibly disclosed users’ private or sensitive conversations to third parties due to Siri being activated unintentionally.

Who Qualifies to Submit a Claim?

Individuals who owned Apple devices equipped with Siri between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, and experienced Siri unintentionally activating during a private or sensitive conversation are eligible to file a claim, as outlined on the official settlement website.
Eligible devices include:
iPhone
iPad
Apple Watch
MacBook
iMac
HomePod
iPod touch
Apple TV

What Is the Potential Payout from the Apple Settlement?

The compensation amount will vary depending on how many people submit claims. However, the settlement sets a limit of $20 per Siri-capable device. For example, someone who used an iPhone, a MacBook, and an Apple Watch might receive up to $60.
You may file claims for a maximum of five devices, with total compensation capped at $100.

How to apply and last date:

you think you’re eligible but haven’t gotten a direct notification, you can still file a claim by going to the official website created specifically for this settlement.
Make sure to submit your claim no later than July 2, 2025.
