Sitaare Zameen Par trailer: Aamir Khan is back on screen in a new avatar, playing a rough-and-tough coach in the upcoming film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, whose trailer dropped online on Tuesday evening.
Directed as a heartwarming family entertainer, the film seems to mirror some themes from Khan’s critically acclaimed Taare Zameen Par (2007), but with a twist. Instead of the sensitive teacher Nikumbh, Aamir now plays Gulshan — a violent, brash, and politically incorrect man forced to coach a team of “intellectually disabled” players for a basketball tournament.
The trailer portrays Gulshan as an insensitive, aggressive man who is introduced driving under the influence and using derogatory language toward his team. His transformation — or lack thereof — appears to be the central arc of the film, with hints that the journey of the team will lead to his personal redemption. The film also challenges societal ideas of “normalcy” and inclusion, underscoring that everyone deserves dignity and a chance to shine.
Joining Khan in the cast are Genelia Deshmukh, Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, and Brijendra Kala. Genelia appears as Khan’s love interest.
Speaking to a fan club in China, Aamir described Gulshan as the complete opposite of his earlier role in Taare Zameen Par. “He is very rude, politically incorrect… He fights with his wife and mother. He has a lot of internal issues,” Khan said. This is Aamir’s third role as a coach, after Taare Zameen Par and the blockbuster Dangal.
Sitaare Zameen Par marks Aamir Khan’s comeback to the big screen after his 2022 film Laal Singh Chaddha failed to impress at the box office. While he had announced a break from acting post the film’s poor reception, Sitaare Zameen Par signals his return with a bold and unconventional story.
The film is expected to release later in 2025.
