Posted on 13 May 2025 by financepro

An IndiGo flight en route to Amritsar was forced to return to Delhi on Monday following reports of drone sightings over parts of Punjab and Jammu. The airline confirmed that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure.

Hours later, IndiGo announced the suspension of all flight operations to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot for Tuesday, May 13.

“In light of the latest developments and with your safety as our utmost priority, flights to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot are cancelled for 13th May 2025,” the airline said in a statement on social media platform X.

“We understand how this may disrupt your travel plans and regret the inconvenience caused. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates promptly. Please check your flight status on our website or app before heading to the airport. For assistance, we’re just a call or message away,” the statement added.

The cancellations followed a series of drone sightings across Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba and Punjab’s Jalandhar regions. These incidents occurred shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation.

Locals in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district reported hearing 7–8 explosions in the Dasuya area, prompting an immediate blackout in affected zones, including Pathankot, the Vaishno Devi Bhawan, and the pilgrimage route.

Around 15 drones were seen near the Northern Command and Air Force Station in Udhampur, while about five were spotted near Katra. Visuals from Samba showed red streaks and explosions as India’s air defence systems responded to the aerial threats.

In Jalandhar, authorities issued an alert after drones were spotted near a key army installation, with explosions also reported near Suranasi village. Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain confirmed the explosions in Dasuya.
