Meta Platforms introduced its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in India on Tuesday, with prices starting at Rs 29,900. Pre-orders are now open on Ray-Ban.com, and the collection will be available for purchase beginning May 19 on the website as well as at top optical and sunglass retail stores across the country. These smart glasses were initially unveiled in September 2023, but only for the U.S. market.
Developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the glasses come equipped with a 12MP ultra-wide camera, built-in open-ear speakers, and microphones. The new launch includes updated designs and additional style options.
Shoppers can now select from fresh variants such as the Skyler Shiny Chalk Grey paired with Transitions Sapphire lenses, the Skyler Shiny Black with classic G15 Green lenses, or a Skyler Shiny Black model featuring clear lenses. Meta had introduced a live translation feature in December 2024, initially restricted to early access users in the U.S. and Canada.
That translation functionality is now being expanded globally to all markets where the smart glasses are available. It supports real-time speech translation between English and languages like Spanish, French, and Italian via a simple voice command: “Hey Meta, start live translation.”
Users will hear the translated audio through the glasses’ open-ear speakers and also view text transcriptions of the conversation. Downloadable language packs further enable offline translation, removing the requirement for a Wi-Fi connection.
In addition, Meta is enhancing Instagram integration, enabling users to send and receive direct messages, photos, and even make voice or video calls directly through the glasses. By saying “Hey Meta, send a message to Lisa on Instagram,” users can easily communicate through the app without using their phone.
