Justin Baldoni using Taylor Swift’s name in Blake Lively legal battle? – Entertainment News

Posted on 11 May 2025 by financepro

Taylor Swift‘s rep set the record straight after she was once again dragged into the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni legal clash over the controversial movie that won’t stop making headlines, It Ends With Us.

Just this week, reports of the billionaire pop star being hit with a subpoena in the warring costars’ case made noise in the showbiz world. However, her representative has since ripped into the Jane the Virgin actor for repeatedly “using” Swift’s name even though her involvement with the Colleen Hoover-book-brought-to-life was limited to her song “My Tears Ricochet” being featured on it.

This is not the first time Baldoni’s legal team has suggested bringing in the Grammy winner as a witness in the ongoing controversy. On the opposite side, the “Love Story” hit-maker’s side has vehemently insisted on her minimal association with the on-set drama, which ultimately lit the legal fire.

Taylor Swift’s rep torches Justin Baldoni’s subpoena action

A spokesperson for Swift shared a statement with multiple US-based entertainment outlets, slamming Justin Baldoni for relying on a “tabloid clickbait” scheme with the pop star as a sacrificial lamb. The source vouching for Taylor maintained that she had no time to be present on the set of the Lively-Baldoni movie owing to her wholehearted commitment to her record-breaking Eras Tour.

“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see ‘It Ends With Us’ until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history,” a Taylor Swift spokesperson shared with People, TMZ and Entertainment Weekly.

Taylor Swift only connected to It Ends With Us through her song

“The connection Taylor had to this film was permitting the use of one song, ‘My Tears Ricochet,” they added. The rep again argued that her involvement was centred around licensing a song for It Ends With Us. On top of that, she wasn’t the only artist to be the tied to the film in this capacity as 19 other artists had the same link with it. “…this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case,” the spokesperson doubled down on distancing the songstress from the legal turmoil between her pal Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.

Despite the “Look What You Made Me Do” crooner not being named as a defendant in Baldoni’s complaint, the music superstar has been mentioned several times in his team’s filings–even if without her full name– as being supportive of Blake Lively rewriting some sections of the movie during a meeting. The alleged gathering is said to have taken place at the Shallows actress and her husband Ryan Reynolds’ New York penthouse.

Blake Lively also slams Justin Baldoni for dragging Taylor Swift into the case

In addition to Taylor Swift’s rep speaking out on the matter, Blake Lively’s camp was critical of Baldoni’s legal team subpoenaing the musician. “Mr. Baldoni, Mr. Sarowitz, and team continue to turn a case of sexual harassment and retaliation into entertainment for the tabloids, going as far as suggesting that they sell tickets to a concert venue – Madison Square Garden – to witness Ms. Lively’s deposition, to subpoenaing Taylor Swift, a woman who has given a voice to millions all over the world,” a rep for the 37-year-old actress said in a statement referring to her costar and Wayfarer Studios co-founder Steve Sarowitz, as per People.

Blake Lively vs Justin Baldoni trial set for next year

Lively and Baldoni’s legal battle officially set in motion in December, when she formally accused him of sexual harassment, “disturbing” behaviour on set and launching a smear campaign against her. Her initial complaint has since panned out into a full-fledged lawsuit in New York federal court. The It Ends With Us director followed by counter-suing the Gossip Girl diva and naming Reynolds as defendant in the case. The impending trial is scheduled for March 2026, when both It Ends With Us actors are expected to take the stand.
