Amid ongoing military tensions with Pakistan, operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport resumed normally in the early hours of Saturday. However, passengers have been advised to remain alert as enhanced security measures may lead to delays.
In its official advisory, the airport authority stated, “Delhi Airport operations are normal at present. However, due to changing airspace conditions and increased security measures as per orders from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, some flight schedules might be impacted, and security checkpoint processing times could be longer.”
Passengers were urged to stay in constant touch with their airlines, follow baggage rules, arrive early to accommodate security delays, and check real-time updates through official airport channels. The advisory also asked travellers to avoid circulating unverified information on social media platforms.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced that 32 airports across northern and western India will remain shut for civilian flight operations until May 15. The move, coordinated with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), is part of precautionary measures amid escalated border tensions.
The airports affected include key facilities in Srinagar, Amritsar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Bikaner, and Jodhpur, among others. Other affected airfields are located in states like Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
The DGCA confirmed that multiple Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) had been issued regarding the closures. No timeline was provided for their resumption beyond the May 15 cutoff.
The temporary shutdown and enhanced vigilance at Delhi Airport underscore the country’s heightened alert posture and its impact on civilian air travel amid regional military developments.
