The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has granted a Letter of Intent (LoI) to Starlink following the company’s pledge to comply with India’s revised licensing and security regulations, as per government sources.

As report by The Washington Post indicates that strategic trade considerations may be influencing the swift approval of Starlink’s services in India. As per reports on the internst, Indian officials have accelerated the approval process, perceiving Starlink’s entry as a possible strategy to enhance current trade discussions with the United States.
“It’s not likely to be an explicit element of the trade negotiations with the US, but the Indian side sees this as an important lubricant that facilitates a deal,” an Indian official told The Washington Post.
SpaceX could unlock a multibillion-dollar market with the introduction of its Starlink satellite internet services in India. Industry estimates suggest that capturing even a modest 1% share of India’s vast consumer broadband sector could generate close to $1 billion annually for the company. Given India’s large population and increasing demand for internet connectivity, the financial potential is substantial.
