YouTube has named Gunjan Soni as its new Country Managing Director for India, marking a strategic leadership appointment as the platform continues to expand in one of its largest global markets.
Soni brings over two decades of experience across business strategy, technology, marketing, and e-commerce. She most recently served as Group CEO of ZALORA in Singapore, where she led the company’s growth into new categories, launched loyalty programs, and focused on enhancing personalisation.
Prior to her role at ZALORA, Soni held leadership positions at Star India as Executive Vice President and at Myntra as Chief Marketing Officer. She began her career at McKinsey & Company, eventually becoming a Partner in the Consumer and Marketing practice. She also serves on the board of CBRE Group, a Fortune 500 company.
Announcing the appointment, Gautam Anand, Vice President of YouTube APAC, said the platform is excited to bring Soni on board, citing her deep understanding of the creator economy and India’s digital landscape as crucial assets for YouTube’s next phase of growth.
Born and educated in India, Soni holds a Computer Science degree from Barkatullah University and an MBA in Finance from XLRI Jamshedpur. Reflecting on her appointment, she said she is eager to work with creators across India, help expand opportunities in video commerce and Shorts, and further grow YouTube’s engagement across generations.
Soni highlighted the platform’s broad reach, noting that it resonates with users across all age groups in her own family. She emphasised her commitment to supporting creators and enhancing connections between viewers, content, and brands in India’s rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.
