Bharti Airtel has added two enhancements to its artificial intelligence (AI) enabled anti-spam solution which it launched in September last year, the telco said in a statement on Monday.
The spam detection service will now allow screening and alerts on spam calls and messages originating from international numbers. Additionally, the service will also allow customers to receive alerts for spam calls and messages (SMS only, not on internet enabled applications) in ten Indian languages.
Data provided by the telco suggests that it saw a 12% increase in overseas spam calls in the last six months, after it deployed its anti-spam solution for the domestic traffic.
“After carefully analysing customer feedback, we have enhanced our solutions to better serve the linguistic diversity of India. Additionally, with the growing volume of spam traffic shifting to foreign networks, we have decided to expand our AI-powered tool to scan all SMS messages and phone calls originating from international numbers,” Siddharth Sharma, director (marketing) and chief executive (connected homes), Bharti Airtel, said.
Customers can now choose the different languages for notification of a spam call or message, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Punjabi and Telugu. The update is only accessible to customers using Android devices.
The telco added that it has identified 27.5 billion spam calls till date, which translates to around 1,560 spam calls detected every second. Since its launch in September 2024, Airtel customers have also seen a 16% decrease in spam calls, Airtel added.
