Antilia, the palatial home of the Ambani family, stands tall as a symbol of opulence and architectural brilliance in Mumbai. With an estimated construction cost of Rs 17,400 crore, the 27-storey skyscraper is not only among the most expensive residences in India but also ranks among the costliest buildings in the world.
Designed by the renowned American architectural firm Perkins & Will and constructed by Leighton Asia, the tower is packed with features that make it one of a kind. From three private helipads and a garage with space for 168 cars to a snow room that simulates snowfall in the heart of humid Mumbai, Antilia blends cutting-edge engineering with luxury. The building is also built to withstand earthquakes of up to 8.0 magnitude, ensuring safety alongside grandeur.
Perkins & Will, founded in 1935 by Lawrence Perkins and Philip Will Jr., is known for its interdisciplinary approach to design. Now part of the Dar Al-Handasah group, the firm has brought global design excellence to the Ambani residence. The construction was entrusted to Leighton Asia, a major player in Asia-Pacific infrastructure projects and a subsidiary of Australia’s CIMIC Group. Leighton Asia has worked with Reliance Industries on several other key projects, including the prestigious K-12 International School.
Adding a personal touch of elegance to Antilia’s interiors, renowned designer Gauri Khan lent her creative expertise to a sophisticated bar lounge within the residence in 2019. Known for her refined aesthetic, soft pastel tones, and intricate lotus motifs, Khan infused subtle glamour into the space. Her design achievements have earned her a place on Fortune India’s 50 Most Powerful Women list in 2018.
Antilia continues to fascinate onlookers and architecture enthusiasts alike, not just for its scale and extravagance, but for its seamless integration of luxury, resilience, and thoughtful design.
